Founded in 1964, Wawa Food Markets opened its first store in Folsom, Pa., quickly becoming a chain of more than 500 retail gasoline and convenience stores located throughout Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. "Wawa" is a Lenni Lenape Indian word for the Canada goose that is found in the Delaware Valley, and Wawa, Pa., is the location of the company s headquarters. Wawa Food Markets offers a large selection of built-to-order hoagies, the Sizzli hot breakfast sandwich, quality dairy products, and Wawa brand juices and teas. All Wawa stores feature a wide selection of ready-to-go salads, fresh fruits and produce. Wawa also brews and sells over 125 million cups of coffee each year. It is among the first convenience food stores to implement a self-serve computer touch-screen menu for food orders. Wawa Food Markets, in association with JPMorgan Chase, offers credit cards to its customers.
