The United Way of Allegheny County is a community fundraising organization that streamlines the process of getting money to agencies that impact critical community needs. The organization analyzes and invests in a network of more than 60 nonprofit associations that collectively address communitywide health and human service needs. It invests in prevention strategies and addresses the root cause of emerging needs for at-risk children and youths, troubled teens, struggling families and senior citizens. The United Way of Allegheny County, located in Pittsburgh, conducts an annual event, the Day of Caring, to promote voluntary participation and maintains a youth group that involves its members in philanthropic, professional and personal growth and development through networking and social events. The organization additionally motivates children to succeed in school through early childhood development, mentoring and school-to-work programs.
