HistoryThe Kuhn Orchards family history of farming the land dates back to the 1840s. The 'home farm' in Cashtown was originally owned by Isaac and Ida Mickley. During the Civil War, Confederate troops marched through Cashtown on their way to battle in Gettysburg and used the Mickley's barn as a hospital. The barn still stands today. The farm was later inherited by their daughter Edna and her husband Charlie Kuhn. At this time, 75 acres of the farm was devoted to fruit (mainly apples), and the remainder was used as pasture for 50 steers, along with some hogs, chickens and a few dairy cows. The farm has since been owned and operated by the Kuhn family - through the generations of Edna & Charlie's son, Floyd and his wife Marie Andrew. Their son, David, came back to the family business in the 1970s with his wife Mary Margaret Barnes, after attending North Carolina State University majoring in Horticulture. David & Mary Margaret's daughter, Sidney, returned to the family farm in 2008.SpecialtiesKuhn Orchards is a 5th generation fruit grower located just outside of Gettysburg, PA.
