74 years ago with little more than a fresh keg of beer and a few picnic tables, Nellie Goble began to build a small piece of Chambersburg history and named it The Cottage. Attracting workers from Chambersburg Engineering Company, the corner of Wayne and Coldbrook Avenues soon became the place to relax after work and drink a few beers. Since 1933 The Cottage has had a succession of owners, all of whom have added their own unique signatures to the establishment. Throughout it all, one thing has remained the same; The Cottage is still one of the area's most popular gathering places. Maintaining the original atmosphere of The Cottage including eight TV's in the bar area, a fall NFL package, Penn State football, and happy hour from 5 pm-7pm, current owner Tom Boock is always seeking ways to improve and enhance the business. To that end Tom has implemented some bold and innovative ideas to keep The Cottage in the news. In March 2007, The Cottage became a smoke-free establishment, the first restaurant/pub in the area to do so. Seasonal menus, loyalty dining programs and a unique gold membership plan ensures that frequent diners get rewarded for their loyalty without getting bored of a tired menu. In addition to the full service restaurant and bar, The Cottage also offers catering for all occasions.
