History
I've been in the private practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis since 1957. In addition, I'm a Clinical Professor with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and do a lot of teaching with medical students and residents.
Specialties
I'm a psychiatrist and a psychoanalyst, which means I work with emotional problems and conflicts of all kinds. This includes such things as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, sexual problems and the effects of trauma. I use medication, but I have found that the most important and most effective weapon against emotional distress is psychotherapy: talking about your problems with the aim of understanding what is going on in your feelings that you may not be clearly aware of. The relief that this gives can be profound!
