The Swedenborgian Church bases its beliefs on the Bible through the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), a Swedish scientist and theologian. The church believes in one God made up of a trinity. Another tenet is the belief that all people are spirits with material bodies, which, upon death, are cast aside and continuance of life occurs in the spiritual world. Always evolving, the Swedenborgian Church is placing more emphasis on religious experiences and spiritual development outside of religious worship. However, traditional activities like worship service, Sunday school programs, discussion groups and lectures are still actively practiced.
