Founded in 1864, Swarthmore College is one of the leading, coeducational institutions of higher learning in the United States. The college is spread over a more than 350-acre campus that includes a science complex, residence hall and curricular and cocurricular undergraduate facilities. It offers more than 600 courses to over 1,400 students. Swarthmore College also provides undergraduate research opportunities in the areas of science, social science, engineering and humanities. The college operates a career service office, on-campus bookstore, and health, intercultural and black cultural centers. It offers counseling, psychological and academic support services for students. In addition, Swarthmore College administers a chorus, film society, and cycling, chess, folk dance, photography, opera and Russian clubs.
