For more than 40 years, Resilite Sports Products has manufactured athletic mats. Resilite has grown from a manufacturing leader of wrestling mats to providing protective mats for gymnastics, cheerleading, pre-school, tumbling and weightlifting, making the company one of the world's largest mat manufacturers. Prior to the 1950s, wrestling mats consisted of a smashed-down pile of horsehair crammed into a canvas cover. Mats were hard to keep clean and mat burns were common. In 1959, Warren Tischler started a mat company in Sunbury, Pa. He perfected a new type of wrestling mat manufactured with PVC Rubber Nitrile foam covered with a PVC vinyl painted surface. This mat was more resilient, lighter and safer. The company s sports and athletic mats have been developed to meet the needs of training centers, households, clubs, colleges, universities and schools throughout the country.
