Headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa., the Public School Employees Retirement System is an agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It provides an array of retirement benefits to more than 500,000 members, including full-time, part-time hourly and part-time per diem public school employees. Established in 1917, the agency has over 20 regional offices. The Public School Employees Retirement System is managed by a staff of more than 300 people. Its health program offers medical benefits to retirees and their spouses and eligible dependants. The agency also provides counseling services and assists with investment policies. The Public School Employees Retirement System, with an investment portfolio of more than $68 billion, is one of the largest funds among public and corporate pension funds in the United States.
