History
In the 1950s, Old Pine Community Center was born from communities joining forces after the City of Philadelphia set aside land on 4th and Lombard St for redevelopment When Friends of Old Pine Street acquired the land, Old Pine Street Church required more space for its programs and pre-school. St. Peter's School needed a gym . The building, completed in 1977,included a banquet hall, gym, kitchen meeting rooms and office. The building was shared by Old Pine St. Church and St. Peter's School. The basement houses Presbyterian Historical Society archives. The Center was built from private funds raised by Friends of Old Pine Street, St. Peter's School, and the Historical Society. Over 40+ years, Old Pine Community Center has undergone many changes, including being recognized as an independent 501(c)(3), while continuing the tradition of enriching the community for all. Individuals and families across Philadelphia turn to OPCC as a place to gather, learn, and ultimately a place to hope.
