History
In the summer of 1993, three teachers from Westtown School were looking for a place for their children to spend their day while they were at work. Inspiration struck and on August 23, 1993, they started Oak Lane Day Care in the circa 1928 Quaker Meeting House on the Westtown School campus. Within the first year, the daycare had seven children enrolled. Today, over 25 years from its tender beginnings, Oak Lane Day Care serves approximately 30 children, cared for by six teachers and two administrators. We are proud to say that one of the first teachers at Oak Lane is still with us today! Oak Lane Day Care is a member of the Friends Council on Education and NAEYC.
Specialties
Located on the campus of Westtown School and guided by the Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship, Oak Lane Day Care provides a nurturing and educational environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Low teacher-to-student ratios and small classes allow us to adjust daily activities to the class as well as to the individual child. Our focus is on the whole child with a goal of encouraging curiosity, imagination, and compassion. Family involvement is an integral part of Oak Lane's community. We enjoy several family events each year, from Potluck Dinners to Cleaning Days to Tie-Dye Day. Our vision is to go beyond providing a service by creating a community that includes the whole family. Our focus on family is supported by our accommodation for a variety of schedules from two to five days per week, with half-day and full-day options.
