Distar L.L.C began in 1987 under the name Dental Sleep Disorder Prevention ( DSDP ), and was incorporated in December 1991, in June of 1994 the name was changed to DistarDr. Thomas E. Meade, inventor of the TheraSnore family of appliances began to research the connection between dentistry, snoring, and sleep apnea in the mid-1980's. While running a successful dental practice in in Albuquerque NM, Dr. Meade continued his research to innovate the dental sleep field. Dr. Meade's wife, Caroline Meade acted as CEO of Distar and began the business it is today. Distar was new to the dental sleep market and offered a breath of fresh air to patients who did not have an inexpensive and effective alternative to using CPAP machine. Distar began to exhibit at dental, medical, chiropractic, and ENT trade shows ; TheraSnore entered the market with great success.By 1997, Dr. Meade had a busy dental practice and a booming sleep business, which was going to get bigger. In October 1997, at the American Dental Association's annual meeting, Dr. Meade and Distar introduced the Adjustable TheraSnore appliance with a 93% efficacy rate. Now doctors had two versions of TheraSnore appliances to offer their patients. The Adjustable TheraSnore now accounts for 90% of Distar's sales. To handle the increased business, Rick Mondick, Distar's Marketing Manager was brought on to promote safer sleep with the Adjustable TheraSnore all over the world. By 2001 Mr. Mondick took over as CEO of Distar, growing the company by signing new distributors and increasing sales domestically. Mr. Mondick's business accomplishments have lead Distar to be awarded the Export Achievement Certificate by the United States Government for excellence in exporting. Distar can truly say it makes the best selling anti-snoring appliance in the world!In 2006 Distar changed the sleep field again by introducing the Adjustable TheraSnore in different arch sizes. Now doctors can have an even more precise fit for their patient, by having all arch sizes of the Adjustable TheraSnore available. Distar is the first company to offer a custom oral appliance fit chair-side, available in different arch sizes.In 2008 Distar introduced their first laboratory fabricated appliance the, TheraSnore II. Distar now gives doctors custom appliance options fit either by the doctor in the office or have the appliance made in the laboratory.Distar is still the world's largest exporter of oral appliances for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. With a TheraSnore distributor currently in 37 countries providing Distar's products, Distar is again providing a safe, soundless sleep for people all over the globe.
