The Public Works Department is operated by Lower Merion Township, which includes a range of playgrounds, swimming pools, picnic areas and nature parks that spread across an area of more than 660 acres. The department administers several public works activities, as well as prepares, implements and oversees the annual Capital Improvement Program. It operates highway, refuse, shade tree, and electrical, facilities, fleet and equipment maintenance divisions. The Public Works Department collects household hazardous waste materials, including automotive and paint products and pesticides. Additionally, the department conducts street sweeping events. The Public Works Department maintains and operates the sanitary sewer system of the township.
