History
In 2005 , we opened The Tavern with a focus on great craft and import beer and great hand tossed pizza. Since then we have slowly grown into a favorite with both college students and neighborhood folks. The Tavern has had many incarnations since first opening at this location in the 1950's. The most successful, until now, was George's Hoagie Shop. George's operated from the mid 60's until the mid 80's. The Mule, Campus Pizza, Big Tim's, and Ye Olde Tavern are some of the names that operated at 23rd & Liberty Sts. From the late 90's to 2002 this was the home to a Woody's pizza and beer. For some unknown reason the name has stuck with the college students. Even though todays students were in Jr. high when it was last know as Woody's they still refer to the Tavern as Woody's. Occasionally a student will come in looking for something they ordered only to be disappointed to find out thier order is waiting for them 10 blocks east at Woody's! Usually they will wait for us to make it.
