The Lehigh County Office of Children and Youth Services was founded in 1962 by the Lehigh County commissioners under the act of the Pennsylvania Legislature. The office protects children from abuse and neglect, offers children's welfare services and ensures access to community-based care. In addition, it offers nursing care, emergency management, human services, and community and economic development. The Lehigh County Office of Children and Youth Services offers educational programs and risk assessment through a comprehensive ecological approach. The office assesses family functioning with regard to specific physical, behavioral, psychological and environmental factors that are determined to correlate with child abuse and neglect. It maintains an office in Allentown, Pa.
