Lafayette College is an institution of higher learning that specializes in undergraduate education primarily in liberal arts, sciences and engineering located in Easton, Pa. The college, founded in 1826 by the citizens of Easton, offers undergraduate degrees in 45 areas of study, which includes Africana studies, biology, mechanical engineering, music, neuroscience, mathematics, philosophy and physics. Lafayette College is approximately 70 miles west of New York and 60 miles north of Philadelphia. In1857, Lafayette became the first American college to establish a chair for the study of the English language and literature, with emphasis on philology (the study of linguistic change over time in language or in a particular language or language family).
