HistoryWood Enrichment Services started as a tutoring service in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. In 2011, it expanded into four divisions: Gifted Advocacy for Parents, Customized Enrichment Instruction K-9, seminars, workshops and speakers for groups of any age, and Scholastic Chess Instruction K-12. By 2013, the company expanded into locations in New Holland, Reading, Lancaster, Annville and Hershey. The non-profit chess division has expanded rapidly and currently accounts for 75% of the business. It is currently the largest scholastic chess company in central Pennsylvania. In 2017, the scholastic chess division has expanded to include collegiate chess and chess for senior citizens. Participation in national events in Florida, Kansas, and Tennessee are yearly occurrences as well as participation in fairs and parades. The long range plan calls for continued expansion which would involve hiring additional staff.SpecialtiesWe specialize in the enrichment of students which includes gifted advocacy for parents, providing customized courses for advanced students, instructing groups through seminars, and by expansion of chess-related activities. Our largest area is the Wood Chess Division. We are the largest chess company in central Pennsylvania with clubs, direct teaching, and instructional tournaments.
