Hickman Lumber produces more than 10 million board feet of high-quality Pennsylvania hardwood logs each year. The company is a source for high-grade species of black cherry, red and white oak, ash and white hard maple wood from the forests throughout the region. It provides its lumber for domestic and export markets. Hickman Lumber practices sustainable forestry principles on public and private timberlands to protect the environment. The company received a forestry award for meeting the requirements of the American Tree Farming Association. Hickman Lumber s kiln capacity is approximately 500,000 board feet. The company owns 10,000 acres of land and manages another 6,000 acres for public and private lands. In 1999, Hickman Lumber was the first company in Pennsylvania to be certified by the SmartWood Program, a certification that ensures that the wood identified and purchased with the SmartWood program comes from a forest endorsed by the Forest Stewardship Council.
