Samir Mehta, MD
Dr. Samir Mehta is a fellowship trained orthopaedic trauma and fracture surgeon, treating broken bones and injuries of the arms, legs and pelvis. His goal is to improve function by restoring form, including fixing fractures that have just happened, along with fractures that may not be healing or may have healed incorrectly. When most people think of "trauma", their thoughts often go to events like car crashes or falls from heights or natural disasters. But, trauma is any sort of injury, like tripping while running or missing the last step on the stairs or breaking something during an athletic event. Dr. Mehta treats "hot trauma" (injuries that have just occurred), as well as "cold trauma" (the effects of injuries that occurred in the past). As a result of the diverse patient population that he has treated over his fifteen years at Penn Medicine, Dr. Mehta has helped build a team that specializes in caring for patients who have broken their limbs or had soft tissue injuries using specialized equipment and soft tissue techniques. He has also developed specialized programs on limb realignment, limb salvage, limg lengthening, and deformity correction. He serves the local, national, and international community with his fracture work, including professional and semi-professional athletes who sustain orthopaedic trauma and fractures. In addition, Dr. Mehta uses his skills in working abroad on medical missions. Dr. Mehta has been recognized by Best Doctors in America in 2009 - 2012 and 2015 - 2018, along with several additional teaching awards. In addition, Dr. Mehta holds several local, national, and international leadership positions with respect to orthopaedic trauma, helping define the goals of care for the next generation of surgeons, and volunteers in developing nations providing education and patient care. Dr. Mehta is passionate about what he does and how he does it. Recognized in Philadelphia magazine's annual Top Docs issue for 2021.
