The Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh is a privately-owned wholesale bank that offers low-cost funding to nearly 340 shareholder-member financial institutions throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Created in 1932 to promote home ownership, The Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh is one of twelve Federal Home Loan Banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System. Each bank is a privately-capitalized, independently-managed cooperative that must meet strict regulatory and capitalization standards. The banks are self-supporting and receive no taxpayer funds. As a result of legislative changes in recent years, the Federal Home Loan Banks have expanded beyond housing finance and provide additional liquidity for small business, community development, rural development and agricultural purposes.
