In 1986, Jim Allgyer, unhappy with the inconsistent quality of premanufactured stairs, set out to establish a true manufacturing system for wood stairs. Durawood Products attributes its success to its short lead-time, low production cost and exceptional customer service. During the 1990s, the facility grew to more than one acre under roof. A computer generated sales ordering system, coupled with a production reporting system developed in 1999 help to maintain a competitive advantage while focusing on the three key success factors. In 2001, Craig McDonald purchased Durawood. The company produces pre-assembled rail, treads, risers, stairs and stair parts. Durawood Products is located in Denver, Pa.
