The Bureau of Air Quality is a part of the Department of Environmental Protection, which is governed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The bureau administers an air quality program that regulates more than 70,000 inspection points, such as pollution control devices, boilers, fuels and paints at over 3,645 facilities in the state. It processes nearly 1,200 annual emission statements. The Bureau of Air Quality is responsible for the issuance of pharmaceutical and specialty chemical production permits. The Department of Environmental Protection offers waste management and water and air quality checkup services. The department also supports community renewal and revitalization programs.
