Communities In Schools of Southwest Pennsylvania, also known as CIS, is a nonprofit, community-based organization that offers a range of academic and behavioral assistance services for children and youths. Founded in 1977, it provides various mentoring, tutoring, homework assistance, career counseling, behavioral modification, after-school and alternative education services. The organization administers Session I, which is a morning program that includes instructions for students in English, math, science, history, and life and career skills through a computer-based individualized curriculum. Communities In Schools of Southwest Pennsylvania also conducts a pregnant and parenting teen program that features educational and emotional support for pregnant teenagers and young parents. It maintains a tutoring academy that offers several educational assistance programs. Communities In Schools of Southwest Pennsylvania is located in Uniontown, Pa.
