Bird-in-Hand Farms, Inc was founded by Herman M. Bloom in 1949. In the past 50 years the company has grown from a small poultry processing plant in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania to a multi-office trading complex with locations across the United States.In its early days, Bird-in-Hand Poultry Company produced frying chickens under the Bird-in-Hand label for sale in Philadelphia, New England, and the New York area. The company was a pioneer in both brand labeling and tray-packing, developing the tray-pack concept in 1959, several years before it became popular nationally.The company's initial foray into poultry trading also began in 1949 with an opportunity to trade turkeys. By 1972 the company, now led by Mr. Bloom's son Fred, had decided to focus exclusively on trading. The processing plant was sold and Bird-in-Hand added chickens to its expanding list of traded items. A third generation of Blooms entered the business in 1992 when Ted Bloom joined the company.Today, Bird-in-Hand Farms operates nine offices across the country and draws upon the expertise of 18 traders, incorporating a breadth of industry experience.
