Arsha Vidya Gurukulam (AVG) was founded in 1986 by Sri Swami Dayananda Saraswati, a renowned teacher for the traditional study of Vedanta, Sanskrit and Yoga. Serving both the Indian community of the tri-state area and beyond, as well as interested Westerners, the gurukulam's programs focus on the perennial search for meaning. The gurukulam complex comprises modern housing for students and visitors, a traditional shrine dedicated to Lord Daksinamurthy (Lord Siva as the Original Teacher), a comfortable 400-seat auditorium and dining hall, a commercial kitchen and walking trails. The temple priests are qualified to perform pujas, Vedic samskaras and homas.
