The Anthracite Heritage Museum celebrates the history, culture, and heritage of the people who created the first significant energy boom in the United States. Anthracite Coal is a hard, long-burning fuel that has been used for 250 years. Workers from around the world came to Northeast Pennsylvania to mine in very dangerous conditions while supplying the country with a reliable source of heat and carbon. The Anthracite Heritage Museum interprets the ethnicity, technology, industry, labor, and culture of the men, women, and children who created the many communities of the hard coal region. The Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and is actively supported by the Anthracite Heritage Museum and Iron Furnaces Associates which is a non-profit community based organization.
