Migrant Seasonal Head Start, also known as MSHS, is a federal program that works to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of the children of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. It offers educational, health, nutritional and social services to enrolled children and families. MSHS provides grants to local public and private nonprofit agencies to provide child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families. The program focuses on helping preschool children to develop early reading and math skills. Migrant Seasonal Head Start serves children up to 5 from low-income families. It develops language, prereading and writing skills and basic number concepts. The program s staff members receive training in child development and early childhood education.
