History
The Maresh family moved to Dundee, Oregon in 1959 and in 1970 were the first in Oregon to convert a working farm to a vineyard. Part of building any community is giving back, and founders Jim and Loie Maresh went above and beyond. They not only helped many of their neighbors with their vineyards, but protected the Dundee Hills farmland and helped build the famous reputation of the Dundee Red Hills AVA. The Maresh Red Barn Tasting Room came about as an offshoot of the Maresh's vineyard business. While drinking a $20 bottle of Pinot, Jim and Loie suddenly realized that the winery had paid them only $2 for the grapes to make it. Voila! Rather than sell grapes for cash, they decided to make wine, and the Tasting Room was born. The greatest reward was not monetary, but rather the many enduring friendships formed over the ten years Jim and Loie ran the tasting room. It continues to operate today with wines from daughter Martha, her husband Steven, and grandson Jim.
