History
My journey as a psychotherapist began in New York in 1987. After graduating from the NYU School of Social Work, I immediately went to work at the Brooklyn Center for Psychotherapy as a newly Licensed Clinical Social Worker. At the same time, I was doing post-graduate training at the New Institute for Gestalt Therapy in Manhattan. I had been interested in Gestalt therapy since the ninth grade, when I got my hands on a Gestalt book, Gestalt Therapy Verbatim, by Fritz Perls. It was given to my father by his therapist. He never read it. I did, and it altered the trajectory of my life. After working with MVA clients in school, I opened my own private practice, which I moved to Portland in 1993. While in Portland I have continued my professional development, attending many Institutes of Gestalt study, as well as training in EMDR. Over the years, I have continued to be drawn to working with MVA patients, and I established SOMA Trauma Therapy to focus exclusively on victims of car accidents.
