History
Owners Joel Carson and Kitling Lum came across the historic Pope House in June, 2008. Built in 1890 by Captain George Pope, it is on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. Knowing the Pope House's prior history as a successful Martini Bar, Kit and Joel wanted to develop a bar concept unlike any other. Kitling's Kentucky roots took hold, and the Bourbon Lounge was born. Fresh paint, new floors, and a decor emphasizing bourbon and horse racing was developed to invoke the comforts of a Southern home--where the doors are always open for friends to drop by for a cocktail and a snack as the sun sets.
Specialties
The Pope House Bourbon Lounge is one of the first specialty Bourbon bars in Portland. While we emphasize Bourbon and it's rich history, we have something for everyone. Our beautiful copper top bar is reminiscent of the traditional copper stills used in the whiskey distillation process. We feature classic and original bourbon and whiskey cocktails; 8 microbrew and 1 nitro tap; and a selection of bottles, cans, and wine. The kitchen features southern inspired fare. The downstairs Aristocrat is available for private events as well as additional bar service on the weekends. Visit us inside or have a seat on our beautiful patio--shady and cool and perfect to enjoy a bourbon on the rocks.
