Located in Aloha, Ore., the NAMI of Washington County is a nonprofit, volunteer-based service organization that works to provide support, education and advocacy for the consumers, families and friends of individuals with persistent mental illnesses. It offers assistance in various cases, such as schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar, obsessive-compulsive and anxiety disorders. The organisation also educates the public on issues related to mental health and administers several programs for individuals and families with severe brain disorders. NAMI of Washington County additionally seeks legislative support to help mentally challenged persons. It is a part of NAMI, which was founded in 1979 and has affiliates throughout the United States and in more than 1,100 local communities.
