The Malheur County Correctional Facility is a component of the sheriff's office. Completed in 1996, the Malheur County Correctional Facility is a modern, 105-bed facility that was designed and built for the county by the architectural firm of Lomard-Conrad and Wensel. The staffing of the correctional facility is comprised of two sergeants, 11 corrections deputies, three law technicians and a food service director. A contracted physician's assistant, in addition to one full-time and on part-time nurse, provide inmate medical service twice weekly. Visiting hours at the jail are Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with no exceptions. Visits can last up to 30 minutes with a maximum of two visitors per inmate, including an infant, child, relative or friend. Inmates in the Malheur Correctional Facility have access to collect call only telephones while in the day room. Telephone calls are monitored by corrections facility staff and subject to termination at any time. Social calls to inmates are not accepted and messages are not relayed to inmates. The release deputy or designee can interview newly lodged inmates and help with questions regarding release. The Malheur County Correctional Facility is located in Vale, Ore.
