History
In the late 80s some friends had a dog with a terrible skin problem. They consulted with several veterinarians and even the vet school but could not find a solution. They met Dr. Richard Kearns, a local holistic veterinarian and they started treatment. Within a few months the dog's skin was completely better. I was impressed. So impressed that I became an associate in Dr. Kearns' clinic. He is considered one of the founding fathers of holistic veterinary medicine. His integrative practice included homeopathy, acupuncture and conventional care. His interest in nutrition was keen. After his death in 1989 I continued to work at his clinic and obtained certification in Veterinary Acupuncture. I enjoyed working there but always felt that the pets were very nervous and I wondered if there was a way to make them more comfortable. I moved to Portland in 1993 and worked in conventional practice but felt limited. I took courses in homeopathy and started this house-call practice in 1998.
