History
A group of veterinarians in Portland determined that a trap-neuter-return program was needed to help feral cats. In March 1995 these veterinarians founded the Feral Cat Coalition of Portland and held the first clinic in June 1995. For nearly three years, FCCP held monthly spay/neuter clinics at various Portland area vet hospitals on Sundays when they were closed. In June 1997, FCCP received a grant which enabled us to purchase and fully equip a mobile veterinary hospital to serve feral cats - the first of its kind in North America. With the delivery of the mobile clinic in February 1998, we officially changed the name of the organization to the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. In March 2015 we purchased our first building with funds from an angel donor. Our first clinic in this new location in SW Portland took place in January 2016. In April 2016 we began offering low-cost services for pet cats. Each year we help over 6,000 cats.
Specialties
The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO) is a non-profit spay/neuter program. We have helped more than 90,000 cats and remain the only organization in the area dedicated to providing the level of services that we do for feral and stray cats. For each feral or stray cat in our care we request a donation of just $30, but never turn a caregiver away even if they cannot contribute. We also provide low-cost spay/neuter services for pet cats.
