Founded in 1872, the Eugene Fire & EMS Department provides fire protection and emergency services for Eugene, Ore., and surrounding areas. It operates more than 10 stations and its equipment includes ambulances, trucks, frontline pumpers, tankers, grass and light rescue rigs, heavy rescues and various utility vehicles. In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical response and transport, the department maintains various special response teams for water and technical rescue work, hazmat response, and airport rescue and fire fighting. Its logistics section houses and distributes supplies needed by fire stations and responders. The department provides training classes and maintains a presence in Eugene, Ore.
