Founded in 1996, da Vinci Arts Middle School offers an arts-infused academic curriculum to more than 450 students in grades six through eight. Its syllabus includes visual arts, English, mathematics, science and music. The school provides academic programs in foreign languages, such as Spanish and French. It also maintains a library and media center that stocks books and periodicals. The school organizes a range of athletic activities that includes basketball and volleyball. It provides classes in jazz ensemble and string chamber orchestra. In addition, the school operates several after-school clubs that include step team, gay-straight alliance and science reading groups. The school's facilities include a dark room, digital photo laboratory, and ceramics and drawing studios. It conducts plays and dance concerts. da Vinci Arts Middle School maintains a staff of more than 20 teachers and is located in Portland, Ore.
