Camp Fire USA was founded in 1910, and is located in Portland, Ore. The camp is one of the first integrated, nonsectarian organizations for students in the United States. The company has more than 130 councils nationwide, and serves over 700,000 youth every year. It offers school-based programs, Camp Namanu and small-group programs. Meetings are held after school, in the evenings or on weekends, where boys and girls learn to work together and progress through program levels according to their grade in school. The students get involved in community services, which help them become good citizens concerned about their communities and society. Programs teach responsibility, decision-making, and other valuable skills through a variety of projects.
