History
Atlas was started by Dory Hobbs in 2010 with a small group of children out of her own house. The French immersion program quickly outgrew the space and opened in its current SW Portland center in early 2011. Over the next couple years, Atlas grew to overtake the whole building, and she and her husband Jarod opened Atlas Hawthorne's first Certified Family in 2015 (the second Hawthorne house opened in Summer 2017). The program now includes a brand new Spanish immersion center in West Linn, OR, which has opened in October 2017.
Specialties
Atlas builds globally-minded citizens through language immersion (French or Spanish) and developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood. We offer full- and part-time enrollment options for infants, toddlers and preschool age children. In addition, at our Gabriel Park location, we offer an enriching bilingual after school program for elementary-aged children in the area, where the focus is both on language and on providing a stimulating extracurricular activity.
