The Oklahoma City Fire Department works to serve a population of more than 500,000 residents living in an area of over 600 square miles. It provides fire prevention and suppression, rescue and medical emergency services. The Oklahoma City Fire Department operates an administrative services division that prepares, implements and monitors capital budgets, as well as manages purchasing, contract administration and grants management services. It also maintains public education, fire investigation and code enforcement units. The department additionally has a maintenance services division that is responsible for the determination of specifications for new equipment, coordination of apparatus maintenance and record keeping. It also provides various support services, including facilities and fleet maintenance and public information. Located in Oklahoma City, the department is comprised of nearly 35 fire stations.
