With a presence in Columbus, Ohio, Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, faith-based organization that offers a variety of human services programs, including housing and health care. Founded in 1896, the parent organization serves more than 2 million people in over 400 communities. It supports at-risk youths, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and men and women returning from prison. Volunteers of America serves individuals recovering from addictions and homeless individuals and their families. The organization also provides services and support to people with mental illness. It strengthens community life through various community programs that offer a safety net for individuals and families who are at risk of homelessness, hunger and other life crises. Volunteers of America additionally provides affordable housing for low- and moderate-income households.
