Since 1896, The Burger Iron Company has been in the steel business - in the beginning as a local manufacturer of miscellaneous and ornamental iron, since the early 1900s as a structural steel fabricator and erector and in the second half of the century a steel plate processing component was added. The Burger Iron Company is a leader in steel plate processing. Burger's Steel Plate Service Center subsidiaries provide high-tolerance ground, heat-treated and machined steel plates critical to heavy industry. For the last century, The Burger Iron Company has successfully met the changing demands of the steel-related industry. On August 13, 1896, The Burger Iron & Wire Works Co. was incorporated by founder Joseph A. Burger and a group of investors, many who had emigrated from Germany and Austria. This group included Adolph Kull, Joseph A. Rohner, Gust A. Reichler and Edwin Voris.
