Buckeye Hills- Hocking Valley Regional Development District was established in 1968 and named a Council of Governments for an eight county region that includes Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Perry and Washington, Ohio. It serves as a local development district for the Appalachian Regional Commission and an Economic Development District for the Economic Development Administration. The agency assists the district communities on developing Appalachian Regional Commission, EDA, Community Development Block Grant, Ohio Public Works Commission, projects and applications, as well as in the development of major federal and state grant applications that improve community infrastructure as well as promote growth and development. The Area Agency on Aging provides planning, advocacy, administrative and organizational assistance to county commissioners, county councils on aging, and others who provide services to the elderly. BH-HVRDD's main purpose is to act as a liaison between the district's local governments and the state and federal governments. It is headquartered in Reno, Ohio.
