The Ohio State Penitentiary is administered by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Established in 1998, the facility is spread over an area of more than 200 acres and employs more than 400 staff members. The Ohio State Penitentiary coordinates the Aunt Mary's Storybook program that allows incarcerated fathers the opportunity to connect with their children through reading a storybook on tape and sending the book and tape to the child. It also administers a program that encourages participants to find the motivation and achieve actual behavioral changes in their lifestyles to live an addiction-free life. The Ohio State Penitentiary additionally provides inmates the opportunity to participate in religious and community services. The facility coordinates adult basic education and GED programs for inmates.
