The Smith Library of Regional History, located in Oxford, OH, is a division of the Lane Public Libraries. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and share information about the history of southwestern Ohio, including Oxford, surrounding townships, Butler County, and the Miami River Valleys. The library offers historical materials, exhibits, public programs, and publications to meet the needs of regional history researchers.
Established in 1981 and named after William E. and Ophia D. Smith, the Smith Library moved to a new facility in 2015, providing three times the space for users, collections, and staff. Notable holdings include microfilm of nineteenth-century federal non-population census records for Butler County, as well as being a Freedom Station Affiliate of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and part of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. The library also offers outreach presentations and has an extensive collection of books, periodicals, maps, and other historical resources.
