The Electric Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and construction of electric generation facilities and transmission systems. It owns and operates thermal and hydroelectric facilities for electricity generation and distribution. The department is governed by the City of Hamilton in Ohio. Established in 1926, the city operates economic development, fire, health, income tax, human relations, and civil service and personnel departments. Its planning department is responsible for the reviews of proposals for rezoning, renaming and signage, subdivision plats, planned unit developments, lot splits, zoning code amendments, and street and alley vacations. The City of Hamilton maintains finance, police, neighborhood development, public works, construction services, and parks and recreation departments. Its municipal court has jurisdiction over small claims, evictions, civil actions, and traffic and criminal misdemeanor offenses.
