As a part of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Dayton Correctional Institution facilitates assessment and evaluation for adult male inmates who are sentenced by trial courts. Established in 1987, it is a detention center that offers a range of educational and vocational services for more than 8,000 inmates annually. The center works to develop carpentry, culinary arts, highway and street sign fabrication, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repair skills in inmates for community integration. It also encourages the family members of inmates to participate in several special visitation, support group, mentoring and supported employment programs. Additionally, Dayton Correctional Institution is spread over an area of over 60 acres.
