Powering portions of four United States, American Municipal Power of Ohio is a nonprofit association that represents more than 100 member communities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Michigan. It offers wholesale power and other services to each member. Its main source of power, the coal-fired Richard H. Gorsuch Generating Station in Marietta, Ohio, is capable of producing more than 200 megawatts of electricity. American Municipal Power of Ohio was established in 1971 and has headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. It is affiliated with the Ohio Municipal Electric Association, the legislative liaison for Ohio s municipal electric systems, and the Ohio Public Power Educational Institute, a nonprofit foundation that provides educational services to municipal electric employees and consumers.
