The Grand Forks Police Department is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives and property, arrests violators of the law, and prevents and deters crime. It maintains an operations division that is comprised of uniformed patrol, community service and criminal investigations bureaus. The division also has several specialized units, including K-9, bicycle patrol, special purpose vehicles, police reserve and field training. In addition, the Grand Forks Police Department operates the Special Operations Group (SOG), which responds to barricaded and hostage situations, bomb threats, special events and civil defense. It supports the Crime Stoppers program, which is affiliated with the National Crime Stoppers Organization and provides opportunities for citizens to report illegal activities to volunteers of Crime Stoppers.
