My father had just retired in 1990, he needed something to keep him busy, so he started a small handyman business. After the first month of the first year he was asked to build a deck. The response to this project was overwhelming, at the time, there was only one other contractor building just decks. The demand was great for those little 10' x 10 decks and the handyman business quickly turned into a decking company called Designer Decks. Dad retired completely a few years later and my brother and I took that little trade we had learned and are still making a go of it today, almost 23 years later.
