HistoryThe Humane Society of Polk County, Inc was founded as a 501(c)(3) in January 1982 by passionate animal advocates, Mary Solberg and Valerie Hulst, with a desire to help the animals in their community. Over the past 40 years the Society, with the help of numerous volunteers and donors, has worked hard to help the animals that have come into our care by finding owners of lost pets and finding loving homes for pets in need of rehoming. In April of 2022, we assumed the name Scruffy Tails Humane Society in recognition of the strides we have taken to grow and develop a friendly, inviting organization for pets and community members.SpecialtiesThe Humane Society of Polk County specializes in finding loving homes for the pets in our care.
